Power & link budget
Work through transmit power, antenna gain, cable loss and estimated receive level.
The WiFi Connection builds software that makes wireless networks easier to plan, check and prove. Our purpose is to make Wi-Fi engineering more accessible, more efficient and grounded in evidence, whether you’re a specialist engineer, an IT team, an installer or a business that simply needs its Wi-Fi to work. We do that through Wi-Fi Studio, our Wi-Fi design and survey software, and the free Engineer Toolbox, and we work with customers worldwide.
Hands-on with professional Wi-Fi tools
The experience behind Wi‑Fi Studio and the Engineer Toolbox
We’re Wi-Fi engineers. We have years of hands-on experience with professional Wi-Fi tools such as AirMagnet, NetAlly and Ekahau, using them to survey, design and troubleshoot wireless networks, and helping other engineers choose and use them.
That background shapes how we work. We have seen wireless projects from every side: the companies that make the tools, the integrators that deliver large networks, and the engineers who survey, design and troubleshoot them on site. We build our software around what those teams actually need, which is clear results, less time spent on repetitive checks, and reports that stand up to scrutiny.
The WiFi Connection started as a Wi-Fi services business, carrying out site surveys, Wi-Fi design and installation work. Alongside that, we resold professional tools for Wi-Fi design, surveying, troubleshooting and monitoring. Doing that work day to day showed us where engineers lose time, so we evolved from a services business into a tools business.
Today we build our own software, Wi-Fi Studio, shaped by that hands-on experience of how engineers actually plan, check and prove a wireless network. Wi-Fi Studio covers inspection, design, surveys and monitoring (Assure), with Inspect free for Mac and Windows.
Wi-Fi Studio brings network inspection, predictive design in 2D and 3D, site surveys, monitoring and reporting together in one place. Inspect is free for Mac and Windows, and you can request access to try the rest.
The Engineer Toolbox is a set of free tools for everyday Wi-Fi engineering checks.

Open tool →Estimate beacon airtime as SSID counts, radio counts and basic rates change.
Open tool →Look up theoretical PHY rates by Wi‑Fi mode, channel width, spatial streams and MCS.
Open tool →Estimate device demand against a switch budget and keep suitable installation headroom.
Open tool →Shortlist antennas by connector type and count, then confirm the physical connection match.
Open tool →The antenna connector reference came from seeing engineers order the wrong connector style or the wrong number of connectors. Each tool is meant to answer one practical question quickly, so you can get back to the job.
