Wi-Fi performance monitoring

Design it, survey it, then keep an eye on it.

Hardware and software sensors, watching between surveys.

Problems don't wait for the next survey, and the cause isn't always the Wi-Fi. Hardware sensors on site and software sensors on everyday devices, such as laptops and barcode scanners, track Wi-Fi, local network and internet experience between surveys.

Assure also pulls data from the network management platforms you already use, so you can watch Wi-Fi and switches from multiple vendors in one place, and spot problems before users report them.

Problem sites, first.

One overview shows every site over time, with the sites that need attention first. Each sensor shows its status, scores, signal, last speed test and 24-hour trend.

Wi-Fi or internet? Assure tells you which.

Every sensor gets a Wi-Fi score, from the sensor to your router, and an Internet score, for everything beyond it. Overall is the lower of the two, so you know which part is holding things back.

Wi-Fi Studio Assure latency by leg over 24 hours, to the router and beyond it, with issue periods shaded
Latency by leg, to the router and beyond it. When both rise together, the problem is local.

Wi-Fi score

Signal, delay, loss and jitter between the sensor and your router.

Internet score

Extra delay, loss and jitter beyond your router, plus download speed from a recent speed test.

Default bands: Excellent 90+ · Good 75–89 · Fair 60–74 · Poor under 60. The account owner can change them. Missing data shows as Unavailable, never as zero.

See when a sensor roams.

When a sensor moves to another access point, Assure marks the moment on its signal chart and shows the access point, channel and signal level before and after.

Assure shows exactly when a sensor roamed, and how much the signal improved.

Sometimes it isn't the Wi-Fi. It's the switch.

Assure now reads the switches behind your Wi-Fi, so when an access point struggles you can see whether the cause is a port, a cable or power. It only reads, never changes a setting, and checks every 15 minutes.

Wi-Fi Studio Assure Switches page for a sample clinic: 4 of 4 switches online, 83 of 174 ports in use, 43% of the power for devices in use, and a Needs a look list that includes a fan that needs checking, an access point short of power, a slow link and rising errors on two cables
Needs a look flags an access point short of power, a slow link, rising errors on a cable, a switch near its power limit, a dead access point port or a fan that isn't OK, in plain English.

Every port

Whether it's working, how fast it's linked, errors on the cable, and the power it sends to devices over the network cable.

The switch itself

Fans, power supplies, and how much of the switch's power budget is already in use.

Every access point

Which port each access point is plugged into, so a Wi-Fi problem points to its wired cause: "the access point lost its port", not "Wi-Fi dropped".

Tap any port to see what's plugged in, how fast it's linked and the errors on that cable.

Our first switch check found real faults.

On a beta site, one read-only check found three wired problems behind the Wi-Fi.

  • 3 of 6access points short of power
  • 1,000sof errors on one cable
  • 10 Mb/sa link stuck at a crawl

Switch monitoring is in preview.

Pull logs from any device running a sensor, without a site visit.

Choose Get sensor logs on the sensor's page in Assure. The next time it checks in, it sends its logs from the last three days, ready to download for 24 hours.

Captured when it happens.

When something real happens (a gap when a sensor comes back, sustained loss or latency, a DNS or web page failure, or repeated roaming), Assure saves a packet capture. Open issues show what went wrong, where and when.

See the Wi-Fi around any sensor.

Open Inspect Environment on a sensor for the same channel graphs as Inspect, on 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz. The sensor scans about every 10 minutes, or press Scan now.

Period reports

Three questions, answered: did the network meet design intent, does it meet users today, and can it support future needs?

Explain

A plain-language summary of a period: what happened, where the problem was, and a timeline.

DNS and web pages

DNS lookup times and web page checks from every sensor.

Sites on a map

Every site and sensor on a map, coloured by health.

Three ways to measure.

Use any one, or combine them. They all report into the same site in Assure.

Hardware sensor

Stays on site · Continuous

A dedicated sensor you set up once and leave in place, testing around the clock.

Best for: Continuous monitoring at a fixed spot.

Software sensor

macOS · Windows · Android · iOS (coming)

Runs on the laptops and phones people already use. No extra hardware needed.

Best for: Seeing what real users experience on their own devices.

Your network equipment

Nothing to install · Read-only

Reads data straight from the access points and switches you already run, through their management system.

Best for: Seeing the network's side: power, ports, cables and access point health.

Who it's for

Wi-Fi Engineers, Network Owners and Installers who want to know the network still performs after handover

Integrators who look after Wi-Fi for several customer sites.

IT teams responsible for Wi-Fi across offices, warehouses and other sites.

One project. Every stage.

Wi-Fi Studio runs your Wi-Fi project from first design to day-to-day operation.

Questions

Is Assure available now?

Assure is in private beta. Request beta access.

Can I use Wi-Fi Studio today?

Yes. Inspect is free for Mac and Windows: download it here. Design, Survey and Assure are in private beta. Apply to join the beta; it takes a short beta agreement.

Will Assure work with Design and Survey?

Yes. Assure sits alongside Design and Survey in the same Wi-Fi Studio account and sites: design it, survey it, then keep an eye on it.

Can I get a sensor’s logs without a site visit?

Yes. Open the sensor in Assure and choose Get sensor logs. The next time it checks in, it sends its logs from the last three days. Passwords and sign-in tokens are taken out first. Network names stay in, so you can see which network it was on. The download is kept for 24 hours.
